How much do I have to pay a Realtor as a home buyer in Santa Clarita?

We get A LOT of questions from both buyers and sellers in Santa Clarita. This week we’re tackling the question, “How much do I have to pay a Realtor, as a home buyer in Santa Clarita?”

The short answer is – Nothing! In most cases, you do not have to pay your real estate agent anything to help you buy a home. The seller pays their real estate agent a fee, and then that listing agent pays the buyers agent for bringing the buyer and facilitating the transaction.  Unless buyer and seller negotiate a split or agree to the buyer assuming the full amount. The seller should factor the commission into the asking price.

Every agent must work for a broker; they can’t act independently and are not paid directly. If the transaction includes both a buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent, each will be paid by their own brokerage. Brokers keep a portion of that fee, as a sort of dues, for working under that brokerages name. After that, agents take into account the amount needed for their taxes to be paid at the end of the year, and is left with their net commission.

If you are considering purchasing a home, now is a great time to take advantage of the historically low-interest rates. Please contact us here, or give us a call at 661-373-2374 to discuss any other costs of buying a home.
