Can You Cancel A Listing Agreement?
Between listing and sale, some home sellers find that the relationship with their real estate agent sours. As much as they’d like to, homeowners can’t just walk away from an agent they no longer want to work with.
First, all listing contracts have expiration dates. If you are close to your expiration date, it may be better and less stressful just to wait out the remaining time period. If the contract date is further out you may just ask your agents, or their manager/broker if you can cancel your contract. Most agents are willing to cancel because they do not want to sour the reputation in the community.
If they are unwilling to release you from your contract early. It may be best to address why you are wanting to cancel. The biggest reasons relationships go south is because of lack of communication. Sit with your real estate agent and express exactly why you are unhappy, and if it is possible to address your concerns. Most agents want to retain your business so they will be willing to work with you on your concerns.
