Fun Friday: California Strawberry Festival

This Friday starts off our first weekly Fun Friday Post. Fun Friday highlights events in or around the Santa Clarita Valley. Part of what makes Santa Clarita the best place to live in is our ideal location and access to many fun Destinations, Nightlife and Events. Whether it is the beach, the snow, or right here at home there is always something fun and local to do.

This week we are talking about the Annual California Strawberry Festival. What is more quintessential California, than the strawberry. The California Strawberry Festival is held in our neighbors to the east backyard of Oxnard, California. Taking place May 21 & 22 2016 from 10:00am to 6:30pm.  It is one of the top festivals in the nation kicking off summer. The festival features over 50 food booths, rides, attractions, contests, over 200 Art & Craft Vendors, Celebrity Chef Demonstrations, and Concerts. Some of the Family Fun featured at this festival are:

Strawberry Tart Toss
Strawberry Pie Eating
Strawberry Relay Race
Berry Best Hat Contest
Berry Best Dressed Baby Contest
Strawberry Shortcake Build Off Contest
Musical Entertainment
Award-Winning Arts and Crafts
Strawberryland for Kids
The Jest In Time Family Fun Stage
Strawberry Shortcake
Strawberry Promenade
Kids Care Zone

Another great reason to visit the festival, besides all the delicious strawberries is the amount of money donated to the region and local charities. Since its inception, the California Strawberry Festival has raised more than $4.5 million dollars to help others in the extended community. These donations go to many noteworthy causes for the community, such as upgraded computers to new sports uniforms, buses for field trip outings, repairs, new construction, research, after school music programs, and more. Revenue from two days of celebrating impact the lives of others.
