Fun Friday: California Avocado Festival

We’re back with another edition of our Fun Friday blog. Each week, we try to highlight a fun event, or business to check out over the weekend. This week we are featuring one of our favorite events, the California Avocado Festival!

What is more iconic and quintessential of California than the Avocado! So, in 1986, in true California form, we held a festival for this beloved fruit. (Yes, it’s a fruit) This event started as a way to raise money for local non-profits in the city of Carpinteria. It also helped promote this Southern California city as a beautiful weekend destination.

This year is a special year as it is the 30th year of the festival, or Avofest as they are calling it.  It is the largest FREE festivals in California with over 75 music acts on FOUR stages. Mosey on over to the AvoEXPO TENT where you will find Avocado agricultural photos, historical photos, lessons in avocado grafting, FFA restored antique tractors, and the Largest Avocado Contest. Avofest is also home to the WORLD’S LARGEST Vat of Guacamole!  Their food venue has plenty of avocado dishes, and can be found on the 800 Block of Linden.  Come hungry, and enjoy some avocado creations!!! Pick up some fresh local flowers at their LARGE FLOWER TENT. You and your family can also head to 7th Street for the CHILDREN’S VENUE, home of the Best Dressed Avocado Contest! There will be lots of  games, face painting, and bouncers for all to enjoy! Lastly, the ARTS & CRAFTS VENUE on Linden’s 600 block is open for your enjoyment during all three days of the festival!

This year is expected to be incredible, so be sure to head out and enjoy this cool Southern California fall weather, and check back in every Friday, for our Fun Friday Feature. Festival hours and location below.
